A. DBAR Water Special Session, on “EO DATA AND SCIENCE FOR WATER SUSTAINABILITY IN AFRICA” on the 26th of October 2018

The effective use of EO data can benefit both research and applications to mitigate water shortages, water excesses, degraded water quality and other issues arising from population growth, LLC formation, climate change and industrial development. Knowledge to support water management by the analysis and applications of EO based water variables needs to be developed in particularly in regions where capacity of using satellite and other advanced observations is lacking. This knowledge can be used to reduce vulnerabilities to water hazards at basin and regional level. This leads to informpolicy makers towardsimproving the sustainability of water resources, and supporting capacity building of individuals and institutions through regional programs and alliances.

The DBAR-Water working group together with other national or international communitiesstrives to enhance observational programs andto implement systems for data and product dissemination in innovative ways to make effective use of earth observation data towards free and open data exchange. The special session will bring together experts who can contribute to the issues related to water resource and water management mentioned above. This includes projects where EO are applied around the world, with a focus on Africa. The session welcomes contributions that demonstrate the use of observations and models in addressing hydrological events and water management challenges.

B. The African Space Workshops on the 27th and 28th of October 2018

The African Space Workshops website is on the following link: https://africaspaceworkshops.org/

  • African Space Entrepreneurship Workshop

Encourage and increase space entrepreneurship and space startups in Africa in order to help Africans benefit from space

  • African Space Community Workshop

Bring appreciation, inspiration and representation of the African Space Community to inspire the next generation of African space researchers/scientists, and engineers

For participants wanting to attend the workshops and how they can apply for it, the following is the ” Selection Procedure for Participants for African Space Workshops ” criteria.

One of the criteria to increase your chance of getting sponsored to attend the African Space Workshops and AARSE conference we have is to make a creative video of why advancing space activities in Africa is important to you and how/why you want to contribute to it and send it to us.

A compilation video will be created and the participants sponsored will be announced on the workshop website.
